novel novels

I've read thousands of WWII novels and they never fail to fascinate.  The two latest I enjoyed are War Brides and Flight from Berlin.

War Brides is set in a small, coastal English village where evacuees have been billeted.  There's air raids, rations and your typical WWII existence.  What makes this novel unique is the story of five very different women who bond over their shared experiences during this time.  It's a lovely story about hardship, friendship and revenge.

Flight from Berlin is set in Berlin during the '36 Olympics.  I haven't read many books that use the Olympics as the background for a WWII novel which is why I enjoyed it.  It's told from the perspective of a spoiled American socialite who was supposed to compete in the games for the US.  There's intrigue, drama, suspense and a satisfying ending.
